Careers go through phases, and early on, I found myself in one which provided the flexibility to explore a number of volunteer adventures in various fields.
As for this site...it all started as an idea for a single post to summarize some additional skills that aren't highlighted with my previous full-time efforts.
Not long after did I realize that there is more here than just one post, and that it was about time to finally display some volunteer and part-time highlights of the past seven years.
In one way or another, at one time or another, the efforts below have shaped who I am, and what I can contribute to any organization.
It's a display of the efforts I work with on the side, in hopes that the experience from them will help move my career a step forward, in a worthwhile direction.
2021 Transgender Policy Platform: Northern Virginia PAC
In Northern Virginia during 2021, I was presented the task of spearheading a three person team to create policy stances for a local political action committee (PAC) relating to important topics concerning the transgender community at the time of the policy group's formation. From recruitment, road mapping, and research, to compiling data, engaging in discussion, finalizing stances, to editing and presenting for a vote...the experience was something I'm grateful for having, and the end result is something I am proud to present below.
Note: Ultimately, this was passed and was set to be made public, but was not openly shared at the time. There are no NDA and/or inventions clauses associated with this organization, and as such, I am able to publish freely. With that said, I have voluntarily chosen to redact any identifying information for the sake of this portfolio. Team members were contacted before sharing and were asked if they wished to be credited on this site, and will be given the biggest shoutout if they so choose!
Trees and Housing in Arlington, VA: Campaign Op-Ed
Serving as an Environmental Advisor in 2022 to Independent Arlington County Board candidate, Adam Theo - This piece discusses the relationship between the local need for increased affordable housing with how it affects the need to maintain and upkeep our tree canopy coverage in the area. The article looks ahead into a setting where both can not only coexist, but are mutually beneficial.
Statement on Missing Middle: Arlington Young Democrats
Serving as Co-Chair for the Housing, Environmental, and Infrastructure Committee of the Arlington Young Democrats; below is my first written statement after the unanimous vote to approve the Zoning Ordinance and General Land Use Plan. Passage of this plan was the first major step towards opening the housing market in Arlington County, Virginia.
Note: An abridged version was shared on AYD's social media platforms, and should be recognized as the organization's official statement.
